Process capability indices are frequently used to index or measure the quality of a process. These indices are sometimes the “gold standard” for performance but one must use caution as there are many factors that influence the credibility of these indices. To name a few of the considerations for using these indices are: statistical error, measurement error, and assumptions of normality of the data. This presentation will discuss these considerations and how to deal with them.
